How to visit Bach Long Vi island
Bach Long Vi is an island that is not well known as a tourist destination, no wonder this island has it been heavily exploited for tourism, however if you come to Bach Long Vi you will realize this island is not any less beautiful than any islands in the gulf of Tonkin such as Co To, Quan Lan. Coming to Bach Long Vi, you will surely be conquered by its wild features. Now let’s share some experience of going to Bach Long Vi.

Where is Bach Long Vi island?
Bach Long Vi means White Dragon’s Tail, it is the most remote island in Tonkin Gulf, located in the middle of the bay. This is one of eight big fishing grounds in northern Vietnam, which belongs to Hai Phong city, about 110km from the mainland. The island plays an important role in Vietnam's strategy for economic development and national security and marine defense, that’s one of the reasons few people have traveled to Bach Long Vi.

Best time to visit Bach Long Vi island
The climate in Bach Long Vi is fresh and cool with an average temperature of about 23 degrees. The island is vibrant in the daytime with fishing boats, peaceful in the afternoon with sunset and sparkling with the starry sky when night falls. You can go to Bach Long Vi at any time, but the best time is from April to September because the temperature here is not too high, you can clearly feel the cool air of a remote island as well as escape the heat, stuffy of the city.

How to get to Bach Long Vi island?
To travel to Bach Long Vi, you can catch a boat at Ben Binh port in Hai Phong city, about 7 hours to arrive at the dock in the island, then you can freely explore the island on your own. One thing to note is that the island of Bach Long Vi is located far away in the sea if on the way to you are hit by a storm, you should immediately take a boat back to mainland or if you stay, you must wait for the storm to disappear before a boat can come and pick you up.

Accommodation and things to do in Bach Long Vi island
As Bach Long Vi island is far from mainland, and it has not been exploited much for tourism as well as the development of hotel and guesthouse system. You arrange accommodation in a homestay or in the area for young volunteers, be friendly to local people and tell them your reason to come here and they are willing to let you stay with them.

At Bach Long Vi you can go swimming, walking on the smooth white sand, admire the coral reefs, explore the strange and pristine rocks, climb to the lighthouse and admire the panoramic view of the small island in the immense sea and sky, admire the captivating moments of unspoiled nature and experience the simple life in a remote place.

In the early morning, you can go to the harbor for a walk with the locals, watch the sunrise appear in the beautiful scenery and take photos to create your own artwork. In the late afternoon you can organize small parties on the beach. By the fire of the campfire, with the Bach Long Vi seafood party, watching the sparkling sky full of stars…surely this will be an experience that you will never forget.

Following the squid fishing boats, going fishing or see the coral with the fishermen is also a new and exciting experience. On the east side of the island, there is a wind power station and an abalone center that is worth a visit

Eating in Bach Long Vi island
It would be really a pity if you miss to enjoy seafood when coming to Bach Long Vi, especially abalone. There are 2 types of abalone here: rock abalone and hole abalone.

Abalone is considered as a specialty because the abalone contains very rich medicinal properties, it has the ability to increase vitality for men, help eyesight, treat cough, digest organs, both the flesh and shells have healing and tonic effects. The price of abalone is about 500,000 - 700,000 VND per kilogram, you can buy it as a gift for family and friends.
